The party went to talk to Yanos in Westmarch to see what is already known about the situation going on with the Wydo, the mayor of Dulwich. He was unaware of Wydo having a brother, but it is suspected that Wydo is attempting to take over Longbridge, a town largely involved in the wood trade between Dulwich and Woodridge.
Feeling the need to find more information about that developing situation and also to go make some money, the party decides to check out a different lead telling of cursed treasure in a location known as Duvich’s Pass nearby to Westmarch.
The journey to Duvich’s Pass is short and uneventful. As the party approaches the outskirts of the town in the pass, they notice a series of tents outside of the city. When they approached this camp they heard lots of coughing and other sounds of evident illness, which caused them to instead head for the town to figure out what’s going on. The guards at the gates of the town are excited to hear that adventurers from Westmarch are here to help, and they inform the party that the camp is a quarantined area for those who have fallen ill due to the apparent curse on the treasure in the mine and point the party in the direction of the local tavern to find out more.
At the tavern, Randor the bar tender informs the party that a while ago, the miners were going about their business when they broke through a wall to an unknown hollow area of the cave and kobolds came pouring out. The miners left and guards were posted outside the mines to ensure no kobolds came out to attack the town, but a few miners had not been seen since the incident. Also since the incident, the people of Duvich’s Pass had been falling ill with fever, coughs, unquenchable thirst and blisters, with no known medicine being able to affect these symptoms at all.
The party finds themselves at the manor of the the mayor, Christopher Cinders, in order to find out any other useful information and secure payment for their services. Cinders is reluctant to promise payment, but does so, and the adventures head into the mine.
In the mine the adventurers find a mess hall where a pot of stew is cooking and are ambushed by kobolds. After dispatching of them, they find a pantry, and the kobolds spring a trap in the close quarters, creating an explosive and difficult to see through cloud of flour. The party managed to dispatch of these kobolds as well and took a small amount of food in this store room.
The party triggers another trap heading to another room, and take some damage falling into a pit, but press onward. They reach a large room full of stalagmites but not much light. Using some magic, they manage to discover on the far wall there is a ridge and some kobolds on top of it, ready to fire slings at anything that gets close enough to see. Preszana calls down a beam of moonlight, moving it slowly along the line of kobolds lined up on the ridge. This causes a magic wielding kobold to shine lights out into the room to allow the other kobolds to attack the party. Realizing this, and knowing the kobolds must be lit up to hit them, Thulthoe and Kaybelle push their way to the other side of the room and use magic to hold a torch up allowing Randyl, Westra, and Constancza to destroy the kobolds. After gravely injuring the magic wielding kobold, the rest lay down their weapons, and this leader is stabilized. The leader is able to tell the adventures that there is a demon that has placed the curse causing the town and the kobolds to both be plagued, and also reveals he has children here and just wants to get out of the caves and start a life somewhere else without being killed.
The party goes down the final path showed to them by the kobolds, and reaches a large cavern with an immense pillar in the center and a river in the back, where the demon Jakk stands and tells us that he will kill us in his god’s name. After a battle involving some unnatural darkness, the demon is slain. The party finds out later that Jakk’s god gave him the power of the plague curse, and with him dead the curse should fade, returning the villagers to health.
Going back to speak with the mayor, the party agrees to a payment deal involving a favor from the mayor and safe passage for the surviving kobolds through the pass and out to freedom to find a new place to live before the adventurers return to Westmarch.
