As we are getting ready to have a short rest, there’s a man, Malgus, at the door. He complains that the Wearnes are corrupting his children, the bats of the world. We invite him in to talk. He offers us a small glass globe, that will, if thrown, cast Silence, in an area, for 3 rounds. The Wearnes are trying to summon Kamazots, the bat lord, and that will spell doom for the village and Malgus. To succeed, we must attack at the peak of the ceremony, when most will be incapacitated. Malgus also points us to a stash of silvered short swords. Malgus also indicates that Randyll is going to have to fight off vampiric curse in the full moon. Pair Remove Curse + Icemint to cure. Icemint may be found in Oleander Sanctum. Ketres recalls that a dwarf tower, the Alchemist’s Irey, also will have Icemint. Malgus departs, and we head to the house to recover the silvered weapons.
While travelling to the house, Randyll hears some bats in the trees. At the house, we get attacked by bats, and they shriek at us, giving us disadvantage. We end up killing the man/master, and the giant bat flies away. We head back to the inn, while seeing bats swarming in the sky towards the cliffs beyond the Wearnes’ houses.
In town, we find the gnome woman, Rasalla, pacing back and forth. We go over to her store. Apparently the sheriff went to the inn for a drink, discovered the innkeeper dead. So we are now on the town’s most wanted list. We explain to Rasalla that she needs to keep Garen safe while we finish off the Wearnes. She will let us stay in her shop, and she goes back to her house. After our rest, we head back to the cliffs.
We arrive and Growly the Owl does some scouting work, revealing many bats hanging from the ceiling. Straff teleports up to the cave entrance, lowers a rope down, and with difficulty, we make it to the top. Our noisy climb alerted two were-bats, who attack us. We dispatch them both.
On our way in to the cave, Randyll notices a green gem, but we decide to pass on it for now. Once we get inside, we find a bat man conducting a ritual, with a woman chained and emanating red energy. The cavern is filled with dozens of bats, all chanting. The enchanter comes over to attack us, along with two bats. It is a tough battle, with their stunning shrieks, but we manage to kill one bat. The enchanter goes back to the altar to finish his summoning incantation in 5 rounds.
