Ral, Tholir and Straff are all overcome with drowsiness upon coming up to the room. Randal and Ketres are unaffected. Randall sneaks down the hall and overhears a plot to kidnap us. There are 3 of them. We congregate into one room, Ketres and Randall guard the door. They try to sneak in, but we get the drop on them. Ketres storms out to start the attack. We eventually kill two (last by fireball) after starting a small fire, and capture the third. Bartrell was wearing half-plate armor, carrying some weapons (damaged great axe and light crossbow).

The captured foe is Alvord. He says they were going to take the wizard and anyone else who was asleep. Any new folk are taken to the Wearnes. He doesn’t know what the Wearnes do with them. Someone is expecting to meet them across the river.

After resting Straff searches the inn and finds a strong box with 30 GP, a silver dagger and a club. Ketres takes the silver dagger.

A woman (Kensa) walks in to the inn in the morning, asking for Bartrell. She actually wants to talk to us, and is clearly drunk. She wants us to get rid of the Wearnes. Their mansion is across the river and through a path through the forest. Talek is the patriarch who lives in the mansion. Watch out for the town sheriff Colan. Leaving the general store Ketres overhears Kensa talking about the Wearnes flying over the town at night. Straff cleans up some street urchins.

We look to Rasalla to get some powdered silver. She gives us 2 silver arrows, 1 silver crossbow bolt and two bottles of silversheen, and a vial of powdered silver.

While walking through town, we come across a goblin corpse hanging in the square. The villagers are hanging in the air. We head down to the house by the river, where a barge is. There’s a human (Dabeth) with a bargeman’s pole dragging a body out of the water. The body is dessicated, no blood, some wounds. Legend is that there is a tunnel to hell on the Witching Rock (in the river). Talek used to study the runes on the rock, with his books. Talek doesn’t study there anymore. Straff records the runes in his notebook.

We cross the river, wind our way through the game trails and come across a house with an old couple. They are spectacularly unhelpful and generally unfriendly. Ral scouts a path to a collapsed house. We find a shallow grave containing a recently deceased elf, drained of blood. In the ruins of the house we find a book with the name “Kelley Wearne” written in it. We are attacked by two humanoid winged creatures that emerge from the forest. We fight and they fly off. Tholir silvered his weapon in combat.
